Early Detection, Single Cancers, and MCEDs Stream

No one would argue that the current options for cancer screening are adequate. Most types of cancer have no recommended screening test, and for those that do, the level of compliance and performance ranges from fair to poor. The Early Cancer Detection steam at Next-Generation Diagnostic Summit provides a valuable update on the progress and challenges of addressing this important issue. The number of projects aimed at developing biomarker-based tests for individual cancers, or multi-cancer early detection (MCED) is very promising, but numerous validation and implementation challenges remain for both categories. The huge difference in outcomes when cancer is diagnosed early, compared to far too many cases now of late state diagnosis, makes solving these challenges imperative. This stream provides a forum for cancer screening developers, clinicians testing or implements such screening, and others looking to advance this field for reducing cancer mortality.
